No reception desk. No one on shift. Grímnir, an AI, runs the retreat. It answers every guest on chat, email, Airbnb and Booking.com in any language, takes the calls and picks up the emergency button. It opens the doors, sets the sound, dims the lights while the aurora is out, monitors over forty sensors for temperature, humidity, air quality, presence and smoke, and analyses everything it reads. It tracks the wildlife moving over the point and the lagoon against the 108 species in the 2021 baseline survey, and helps the research programme find the patterns and correlations in its data. It forecasts the aurora, watches the weather, guides the wellness circuit, schedules the housekeeping and the maintenance, orders the stock and runs the safety checks. It prices and fills the rooms, takes the payments, keeps the books and closes the month. It screens every message in and out for security, guards personal data, scores the quality of its own answers, repairs its own failures, and writes its own code. When a person is genuinely needed, it says so.
